Instagram has rolled out an exciting GenAI-powered background editing tool, allowing users in the U.S. to easily enhance their Stories. Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta’s lead for generative AI, shared the news on Threads, explaining that the tool offers diverse prompts like “On a red carpet” or “Surrounded by puppies” for users to customize their image backgrounds.
Users can access the background editor by tapping on the designated icon and selecting from a range of prompts or creating their own. Once a Story is posted with the newly generated background, a “Try it” sticker appears, inviting others to join in the creative fun.
This move follows Snapchat’s introduction of a tool for paying users to create and send AI-generated images, emphasizing the growing trend of AI integration in social media platforms. Earlier, Snapchat launched Dreams, enabling users to craft imaginative self-images with various themes.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has been actively incorporating AI into its apps, making 28 AI-powered characters available across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram for U.S.-based users. Additionally, Meta introduced a standalone AI-image generator named Imagine with Meta, powered by its Emu model.
